[nursery catalog] Earl Ferris Nursery, Hampton, IO.  FERRIS PLANTING GUIDE, SPRING 1938.  79 pp. + inserts, index, ill. with color & b&w photos, colored pictorial covers.  This attractive catalog covers bulbs, trees, shrubs, and perennials includes planting and landscaping information.  The small folio format, reminiscent of a tabloid newspaper, is quite unusual.  The front cover, showing three young children in the Ferris family in front of a cottage garden, is a remarkable period illustration.   some wear at the spine, o/w a v.g. copy in original stapled wraps.  $25

Ferry & Co., Detroit, MI.  FERRY'S SEED ANNUAL, 1929.  97 pp. + inserts, ill. with b&w photos and engravings.  These include an informative photo of their seeds in retail display racks.  The colorful front cover shows a charming painting of a young child in a field of poppies; the artist is unfortunately not credited.  A catalog from a long-standing firm featuring covers reproducing a lovely painting of flowers in a vase by Jane Peterson. a  neat retailer's ink stamp on front cover, paper darkened, wear to b.s., edges of a few leaves chipped, o/w a v.g. copy in perfect bound wraps.  $15

[nursery catalog] Montgomery Ward & Co., Albany, NY, GARDEN BOOK, 1952.  large format, 78 pp. + inserts, ill. with many b&w and color photos.  The attractive color cover feature the American Flagship Rose and the color lithography is excellent throughout, especially of roses, dahlias, lilies, and gladiolus.  The famous merchandiser offered a selection of reasonably priced popular plants.  owner's neat initials in pen on front cover, o/w a v.g. copy in original wraps.  $20

[nursery catalog] Naughton Farms, Inc., Waxahachie, TX, CATALOG FOR SPRING 1947.  large format octavo, unpaginated [14 pp.,], ill. with many b&w photos, an uncommon catalog from "The South's Largest Nursery" printed on poor quality wartime paper offering some fruits and a surprisingly wide selection of ornamental plants.  Among the more interesting offerings were showy orchis and pink ladyslipper orchids for 79 cents each; one wonders if any deep south gardeners could provide adequate growing conditions and where their stock came from!  some edge wear but in general a v.g. copy in original wraps given the poor quality paper.  $10
